High Street, Chesham

This project involved repairs to a Grade II listed former shoe shop in Chesham town centre. The work involved extensive repairs to the historic fabric, including partial rebuilding of the roof structure and complete replacement of roof coverings. This work was only the first phase of a considerable amount of work which will ultimately be required to make the building usable.

The work was undertaken following a major incidence of water penetration in what was by then an empty commercial property. There was fungal growth all the way down the central spine of the building below a failed valley gutter. The main timber frame of the building proved to be essentially sound, although matching oak sections had to be pierced in certain areas.
