Bob studied architecture at Cambridge University and at the Harvard Graduate School of Design. Upon graduation, he worked for several of the UK's leading architectural practices on a variety of projects ranging from commercial and university work to housing.

Bob Thompson is a member of the Royal Institute of British Architects and also of the Ecclesiastical Architects and Surveyors Association, of which he was President in 2018-10.  He is also a past Chair of the Hertfordshire Association of Architects, and has held part-time teaching appointments at the Universities of Central England, Nottingham and Hertfordshire.
