Re-modelling, Radlett

This detached property on a leafy road in Radlett had been substantially enlarged in the 1990s. The brief was to add a relatively modest single storey rear extension, but this was to be in the context of a rather more far reaching “make-over” including new windows throughout and new floor finishes and underfloor heating for the entire ground floor.

The extension incorporates an 11m by 2.7m glass wall to the rear elevation, framed in zinc cladding. Internally the kitchen and living areas flow into one another and into the garden, to provide a backdrop for the owners’ carefully chosen furniture and paintings.

At the front a simple folded plane porch, also finished in zinc, gives a hint of the architectural expression at the rear of the property.
